KBF recently completed remodeling this dreamy Maitland lake house, opening up the floor plan to create a welcoming and airy feel. Not a surface of the main living area went untouched, including flooring, ceilings, windows, and everything in between in the kitchen, living room, den, dining room and powder room.
Walking through the front door, the original floor plan led to the sunken living room that was mostly closed off from the rest of the house. We opened up the walls so that the living room, dining room and kitchen are all within sight upon entry to the home. We lightened the original wood ceiling by painting it white, and we matched this ceiling to continue it into the newly-opened kitchen. We also added dark wood beams to the ceiling to add to the “lake house feel” of the space.
The kitchen received a complete overhaul and new floor plan. The new design removed the single window and door on the wall where the new cooktop was placed, and added matching windows on each side of the cooktop. Pretty white cabinets and a focal-point of a range hood were placed on the kitchens perimeter, and a large distressed-wood center island anchors the space and gives ample room for storage and for guests to gather. New wood flooring and neutral gray paint in all the rooms add to the feeling of expansiveness in this home.
The living room is now open to the den beyond, separated with beautiful barn doors featuring glass inserts that add light to both rooms. The area that was formerly used as a dining room is now a game room complete with a pool table. The former sitting area in the kitchen is now the dining room, perfectly situated between the sunken living room and the kitchen. We also moved a powder bath so the entry was no longer in the kitchen, and added a pantry to the new configuration. The foyer staircase received a gorgeous makeover, and a wet bar was added to the living room.
We have captured the transformation as best we can in the following photos, and we’ve included before pictures whenever possible that correspond with the following picture of newly renovated space.
