Parade of Homes Orlando 2021 – Design Specialty Entry

KBF’s Parade of Homes entry in the Design Specialty category is this rustic modern kitchen. Our clients for this project came to our firm with a dream to update their kitchen and to customize it to fit their specific lifestyle needs. Their main goals included creating an expansive space that would allow for homeschooling, increasing their perimeter countertop space, and incorporating specific appliances including a Wolf induction range and built-in Miele Whole Bean Coffee System.

We began by removing a load-bearing wall to expand the kitchen’s footprint, designing a barrel ceiling over the beautiful new focal point – the custom metal hood in the new range area. A wall was elongated to accommodate specialty appliances, and we disguised their existing air handler closet by using cabinetry panels to create visual continuity along that wall. The original window behind the sink was replaced with a larger, 8-foot wide window to bring more light to the entire space.

The kitchen features frameless cabinetry in a rich alder stain on the perimeter, with contrasting tones of gray on the island and an acorn finish on the floating shelves flanking the hood. These tones are echoed in the playful, patterned backsplash behind the range. The cabinetry boasts organizational features such as spice pull-outs, double wastebaskets, and large drawers that make this kitchen a chef’s dream. The selection of rectified, large-format ceramic tile on the kitchen floor is a durable choice that makes cleaning and maintenance a breeze.

The final result is a kitchen with greater flow and functionality, ample areas for food prep and homeschooling, and a light and welcoming space with contrasting tones and visual interest that will bring them joy for many years to come.

The Parade of Homes takes place from Saturday, July 10th through Saturday, July 17th, 2021.
