While cabinetry is certainly foundational, there are other powerful design elements that can take your space to the next level visually. In this first post of our three-part kitchen remodeling series, we’re spotlighting three areas—lighting, range hoods, and countertops/backsplashes—that offer the most visual impact beyond cabinetry.
These features are your opportunity to bring drama, elegance, and uniqueness into the heart of your home. When thoughtfully chosen, they instantly elevate the look of the entire kitchen—no cabinetry required.
One – Lighting: The Jewelry of the Kitchen
Great lighting doesn’t just illuminate your space—it defines it. Statement lighting acts like the jewelry of the kitchen, adding glamour, scale, and style. Whether it’s oversized pendants over the island or a sculptural chandelier above a breakfast nook, the right fixture draws the eye and sets the mood.

Example from Our Gallery:
In the Windermere kitchen remodel pictured above, a trio of clear glass pendants with brass accents float elegantly above the quartz island, providing both light and a focal point. The fixtures complement the warm tones of the space and add a tailored, high-end feel.
Design Tip: Think in layers—recessed lights for overall brightness, pendants or chandeliers for impact, and under-cabinet or toe-kick lighting for ambient and task illumination.
Two – Statement Range Hoods: The Functional Centerpiece
Range hoods have evolved from afterthoughts into statement pieces. A well-designed hood anchors the cooking area and creates a natural focal point. From custom woodwork to sleek plaster or bold metal, this design feature balances practicality and aesthetic flair.

Example from Our Gallery:
This kitchen remodel in Celebration features a stunning custom-built reeded wood range hood. Positioned above a professional-grade range and framed by creamy Zellige tile, it provides a bold yet timeless anchor to the kitchen’s cooking zone.
Design Tip: Choose a hood finish that either harmonizes with or intentionally contrasts the rest of your kitchen materials. Consider symmetry by flanking the hood with open shelves, windows, or tall cabinetry.
Three – Countertops & Backsplashes: The Power Pair
The countertop and backsplash duo is where texture, tone, and materiality come to life. Together, they frame the work surfaces and give your kitchen depth and personality. Whether you opt for continuous stone slabs or artisan tile, this combo sets a sophisticated visual tone.

Design Tip: Waterfall edges on islands and full-height slab backsplashes are modern, dramatic choices. Want character? Try handmade tiles in an unexpected pattern or color.
Example from Our Gallery:
In the kitchen remodel pictured above, we selected a creamy quartz countertop with subtle veining that continues up the wall as a backsplash. This creates a seamless and luxurious look.
