This October KBF’s owners, Keith and Melissa Vellequette, will be traveling to Uganda on a mission trip to support various ministries, including one that has a special place in their hearts: She Is More Than. This local, nonprofit organization’s mission is to “…restore hope, freedom, and faith to women who have undergone injustices such as human trafficking and sexual abuse.”

The Mission page on the She Is More Than website includes the sobering statistics on human trafficking:

> There are more slaves today than at any point in human history
> In the United States, the average age of a trafficking victim is 12 years old
> 26% of modern day slaves are children under 18
> 71% of modern-day slaves are women and girls
> 2 million children are trafficked each year
> Only 1.2% of these victims are ever rescued

These statistics demonstrate the urgent need for our attention and help, and we are very hopeful that you will join us in this cause. She Is More Than works to both free women from slavery and also to prevent women from being forced into slavery through counseling, vocational training and education. Their Restoration Home in Uganda was built as a place where survivors can “heal and find life again.” The home currently can house eight girls, but we will be working to build a larger home and complex that can accommodate twenty-four girls. The funding for the complex has come solely from donations from corporations and individuals. In addition, She Is More Than has recently been given the opportunity to build a Restoration Home in Sanford, Florida to support victims of human trafficking in America.

Won’t you join us in this worthy cause?

Join us for our “Dine for Freedom” fundraising event at Dominick’s Restaurant in Winter Springs on Tuesday, August 28th or Thursday, September 6th from 6-9pm, where 10% of all sales will be donated directly to She is More Than. Visit our Events’ page on Facebook for the details.
