Are you considering updating your kitchen, but not sure about whether you would like to reface or replace your cabinets? One of the major benefits of refacing instead of replacing your cabinets is the difference in how much time it will take to complete your project. Typically, a kitchen cabinet refacing project will take only two to three weeks from start to completion. Another benefit is that you can often still use your kitchen while the project is underway.
Cabinet refacing includes covering the exposed frames with a thin veneer of real wood or plastic laminate. Door and drawer fronts are replaced to match or coordinate with the new veneer. The updated look is completed when new pulls, knobs, molding and hinges are added.
One of the reasons clients may choose cabinet refacing over cabinet replacement is because they want to keep their existing countertops. Countertops cannot be salvaged when replacing lower cabinets, so if you love your granite counters but want new lower cabinets, refacing is the way to go.
Cabinet refacing is not for you if you are interested in changing the footprint and design of your kitchen. But if your cabinets are structurally sound and in good condition, and you are happy with the design of your current kitchen floor plan, your kitchen may be a great candidate for cabinet refacing.

On this project, the homeowners wanted to keep their existing countertops (they only replaced the island counter top with a contrasting shade of granite), as well as their existing sink and faucet, their existing appliances, and the original footprint of their kitchen. KBF Design Gallery refaced their cabinets, adding new hardware and molding as well as varying the appearance of the height of the upper cabinets, which adds visual appeal to the kitchen. A new glass tile backsplash and new lighting complete the transformation. The results are stunning!
